RONHAI supports especially poverty stricken families and communities using agricultural technologies to realize food-secure healthy families with a steady income.
The majority of people in the community are farmers whose livelihood depends on the success of their agricultural activities.
RONHAI gives land or small plots to poor farmers to grow their seasonal crops. The organisation grants access to planting materials, distributes seeds and organic fertilizer to improve the yield of the crops. In order to improve the skills of farmers, training sessions and workshops are organized. In addition, RONHAI establishes and strengthens farmer groups to enable them to do joint marketing of their agricultural production for a better income. RONHAI collects, documents, shares and disseminates experiences, lessons learnt and best practices for poverty reduction in the community.
Several agricultural projects have been initiated and funded by different donors to introduce new possibilities of cultivation with training and information provided to farmers who are interested in participation. Agricultural activities are currently focused on the improvement of sweet potato cultivation by promoting orange-fleshed sweet potato growing. It is the aim of the organisation to also increase banana planting in the district of Buikwe. Bananas are not only the major food staple in Uganda but can also serve as a major source of income for many farmers. The organisation permanently interacts with other organisations like Research institutions or other Non-Government-Organisations to maintain a network across the country or even beyond which is important to benefit from up-to-date information and development in agricultural topics.
